A DEER was rescued by firefighters this afternoon after it became trapped in a metal gate.

A crew from Keighley fire station used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the animal.

The incident happened at Hillworth Village, off Oakworth Road in the town.

RSPCA officers also attended.

"The deer had been struggling for some time and was in quite an agitated state," said a fire service spokesman.

"We put salvage sheet around it and administered oxygen which helped calm it down.

"It was a good outcome. Once the deer was freed it was fine to continue on its way."
