A PHOTOGRAPHY project has put Keighley in the frame.

‘Keighleygraphic’ encouraged residents to share in creating a special portrait of the town.

The initiative was organised by Keighley Town Council.

Throughout November and December, people were invited to submit their favourite photos for inclusion in galleries showcasing the town and its residents’ creative talents.

There were three categories – A Postcard from Keighley, featuring pictures showing the town “at its most interesting”; Keighley Warts and All, which invited people to capture life as it really is; and Undiscovered Keighley, which encouraged people to “look beyond the obvious”.

Judging was carried out by councillors Julie Adams, Clare Abberton and Abdul Shohid and the winner in each category received a framed version of their photo, printed on high-quality paper.

“Amazingly the judges all independently arrived at the same conclusion – resulting in local photographer David Smith being awarded the ‘best picture’ title in all three categories!” said a town council spokesman.

“The councillors then went on to select 12 entries from all three categories for printing as postcards and any money raised from their sale will go towards supporting the mayor’s charitable trust.

“As well as displaying all the entries on our website, we are planning a special exhibition and awards ceremony event to mark the opening of our new gallery in the civic centre when lockdown restrictions have been relaxed. Details will be issued soon.

“Although the first phase of the project is complete, we hope people will continue to share the fruits of their creativity and keep sending us photos.

“This is a great opportunity for local people of all ages and abilities to get involved in something that will showcase our town and the creative talent of its people.”
