NORTHERN Powergrid has taken to the skies to inspect its network.
Helicopters are used by the company annually to check its thousands of kilometres of power lines across the region.
Bosses warn that the ‘copters fly at low levels, but add that every effort is made to avoid any unnecessary disturbance.
Spokesman Pete Wilstrop said: “Every year our specially-trained engineers take to the skies to patrol our network, enabling us to detect any potential problems before they happen.
“Our power lines are often located in isolated areas and have to stand-up to some severe weather conditions.
“Our helicopters fly at low levels and speeds of around 30 kilometres an hour. Whilst there is some engine noise, the crew works hard to keep it to a minimum and reduce any potential disruption to communities while carrying out these checks.”
