PEOPLE aged 16 and over in the district who provide care and support for others are being urged to come forward for their Covid vaccination.

Carers for elderly or disabled people are included in priority group 6 for the jab.

Anyone who receives carer’s allowance or is already registered with their GP as a carer should have received an appointment.

But the NHS in Bradford District and Craven fears some people may be missing out because they don’t realise they’re eligible.

Carers are being encouraged to call Bradford Council on 01274 436263 to book a vaccination appointment or register as a carer with Carers’ Resource.

Dr Louise Clarke, a GP, said: “It’s estimated that there are over 200,000 people in West Yorkshire who look after a family member or loved one, but we also know there are many who may not see themselves as a carer.

“However, their support is vital to that person’s wellbeing and we want to make sure they have their vaccination so they are protected both for their own sake and for the person they care for.

“By registering for a vaccination, people will also be registered as a carer with their GP practice. That will help them to access other support, to look after themselves as well as the person they care for.”
