YOUNGSTERS across the Keighley district are being challenged to “be their best” this summer.

The British Red Cross and Team GB have joined forces ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games in a bid to inspire children to put themselves to the test in a chosen activity – which could be anything from running or jumping, to reading or baking.

Schools and families are being asked to pledge a small donation to the British Red Cross as part of the Be Your Best initiative.

Kerry Threadgill, the charity’s community fundraising manager in Yorkshire, said: “Every child has a different talent and it’s important for them to develop these and be recognised for their efforts.

“We want to see children and their classmates pledge to be their best at a range of activities. They could aim to swim a record number of lengths or do a mile – or they might decide to smash a target list of new spellings or pick-up a record amount of litter in their community. Even competitive cupcake baking is permitted!”

Big-name supporters of the venture include Olympic gold medallist Sally Gunnell.

Schools and families have until July 12 to sign-up for an information pack, which includes curriculum-linked resources, fundraising ideas, posters and stickers.
