A WARNING has been issued over garden fires following an incident in Keighley this morning.

Firefighters were called out to a property in Mohair Street at 7.15am after a fire started in the garden by the owner got out of control.

One crew from Keighley fire station attended.

"The crew got there quickly and fortunately managed to prevent the fire spreading to the house," said watch manager Ahsan Ali, from Keighley fire station.

"A few more minutes and it could have been a very different situation.

"There are very strict rules about what people are legally allowed to burn in their garden. Rubbish should be taken to the tip."

Earlier, firefighters had tackled a fire in the back garden of a house at Ashfield Street in Keighley.

Four mattresses had been set alight by arsonists.

Crews from Keighley and Bingley were called out to the incident, at 4.20am.

The occupant of the house had partly doused the flames when firefighters arrived.

There was no damage to the property.
