KEIGHLEY people heading-off camping this summer are being urged to be vigilant.
Northern Powergrid says campers should ensure they find a spot well away from overhead power lines and electrical network equipment.
With more people opting for UK-based holidays and camping trips this year due to the pandemic, the company has issued advice.
Spokesperson Gareth Pearson said: “The pandemic has meant many people are looking to get back to nature and this means we are likely to see more people who have not camped for many years – or are first timers – venturing on camping holidays.
“Whether you’re experienced or not, it’s vital you know and remind yourself how to camp safely – especially if you’re not using an official campsite.”
Tips include:
* Look out for overhead power line warning notices and signs prohibiting camping in certain areas
* Look up, it’s live – never pitch your tent underneath an overhead power line
* If you are near a power line, always leave a gap of at least six metres between power lines and your tent’s highest point as electricity can jump gaps
* If moving tent poles, always remember to carry them horizontally so they are parallel to the ground
