AIREDALE and Wharfedale Family History Society has announced a packed autumn programme.

A series of free talks, via Zoom, is being staged.

The first – on Thursday, September 2, at 7.30pm – will feature Gill Blanchard who will speak about her work as a researcher on the BBC TV series Who Do You Think You Are? She helped with episodes which spotlighted Mary Berry and Jonnie Peacock.

On Monday, September 6 – also at 7.30pm – Eric Jackson’s subject will be After You’re Dead. His talk will include a history of grave robbing and dissection and methods used to deter robbers, and will feature the infamous Burke and Hare. “It is lighthearted and not at all gruesome!” says a society spokesperson.

And on Saturday, September 18, at 2.30pm, Stephen Miller will speak about Grave Concerns – amusing anecdotes gathered whilst transcribing monumental inscriptions in graveyards.
