FALLS are not “an inevitable part of getting older”.

That’s the message from Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, as it prepares to mark national Falls Prevention Week.

The organisation, in conjunction with the Yorkshire and Humber Falls Prevention Network, is spotlighting the importance of physical activity in reducing the risks.

A number of events are being staged across Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven.

Stephen Pugh, falls physical activity co-ordinator with the care trust, said: “Falls are not an inevitable part of getting older, but they are the largest cause of emergency hospital admissions for older people. Yet many are preventable.

“We want to ensure that local people know we are here to help and make them aware of some simple things they can do to reduce their risk of falls. As community activities restart people may want to consider joining to keep active, although online and home options remain if preferred.”
