NORTHERN – which operates rail services on the Airedale line – is producing new interactive maps so passengers can explore its stations virtually.

The 3D feature, to be added to the company’s website, is designed to help disabled customers – and anyone anxious about travelling – to become more familiar with facilities and confident about using them.

People will be able to view features such as the ticket offices and platforms.

Updated 2D maps are also being produced and will be available online by the end of next month.

Mark Powles, for Northern, said: “Our customers are at the heart of everything we do – and our ultimate goal is to make Northern’s services accessible to all.

“We are the first train operator to offer both 3D and 2D maps for our customers and this forms part of a wider project to transform our network and encourage people to use public transport. That programme of improvements has included the introduction of 101 new trains – which is now complete – the full refurbishment of all older trains and enhancements at many stations.”
