TWO Keighley-district parks are flying the flag.

Cliffe Castle in Keighley and Central Park at Haworth have both been awarded the coveted Green Flag Award.

They are among six Bradford Council-run parks to receive the status.

The awards scheme – run by the environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy – recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces.

Cliffe Castle Park has also retained its Green Heritage Site accreditation, from Historic England.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, the council’s portfolio holder for healthy people and places, said: “Over the last 18 months, parks have provided many people with a massive boost to their mental and physical health – especially during the early days of lockdown. They give us access to green spaces, trees and fresh air, which provide a great sense of wellbeing.

“These awards are testimony to the hard work and commitment of our parks and green spaces teams – which maintain these sites and keep them looking attractive and welcoming.” Tribute is also paid to the volunteer support groups and Friends.
