STEETON Primary School was visited by local MP Robbie Moore.
He was given a tour of the school by executive head John Cooper, chair of governors Sue West and head of school Kevin Wheeler.
Mr Moore unveiled the name of a new pirate ship, installed in the playground.
A competition had been held amongst the children to name the ship – which was designed and built by site manager Eric Shaw – and winner was The Jade Pearl, with jade being the colour of the school uniform.
Mr Moore also saw a forest school in action and learned about advances in using technology known as Learning by Questions, an innovative platform which helps pupils – using individual iPads – to master topical areas across the curriculum.
The MP faced a range of questions from the pupils.
He said: “It was a fantastic visit and great to see all the work the school is doing with children from across the Keighley district – I am only sorry I couldn’t have visited sooner.
“Seeing the forest school in action was brilliant – it’s so important that children gain these life skills at a young age.”
