A MAJOR initiative is being launched to add some sparkle to Keighley this Christmas.
People of all ages can take part in the Festive Bauble Project.
Children and adults across the town are being encouraged to create baubles, which will be displayed on the Christmas tree in the Airedale Shopping Centre.
A similar venture last year was a glittering success, with more than 1,000 baubles produced – by schools, care homes, groups and residents.
Funding is being provided by Bradford LEAP and Keighley Big Local.
Shaun O’Hare, of Keighley Big Local, said: “The project is championing a plastic-free message this year.
“None of the baubles will be laminated – instead the team is providing residents and organised groups with templates printed on card and is making available jam jar lids and cut discs from felled timbers.”
Several activities are taking place in support of the scheme.
In a recent workshop at Keighley Healthy Living, cross-stitched baubles were made.
Bauble decorating will be held at the Dementia Friendly Keighley premises in the Airedale Shopping Centre on Thursday, November 25.
That day will also see decorating take place at a Winter Wonderland fair at Riddlesden St Mary’s Primary School. And regular Wednesday meetings are being staged at Riri’s Coffee House, in North Street.
Also, bauble packs can be sent out to anyone interested in getting involved.
The formal launch of the scheme is at the Airedale Shopping Centre on Sunday, December 5.
