AN investigation is continuing after Steeton's away league game was cancelled when a number of items were stolen from their dressing room during the warm-up.

The Chevrons' clash at South Liverpool was postponed after an individual breached security at the Jericho Laner Sports Hub ground to take items from Steeton's away dressing room.

The individual was spotted on South Liverpool's ground CCTV leaving the Steeton dressing room with a full bag, the hosts added in a club statement.

South Liverpool says it immediately informed police of the incident and Saturday's North West Counties League Division One North clash was immediately postponed.

The hosts added they have offered to cover the cost of Steeton's transport for the day.

A statement released on the South Liverpool club Twitter said: "Upon reviewing CCTV, an individual had breached the external security of the Sports Hub and made his way into the dressing room and left shortly after with a full bag.

"Police were informed immediately and he game postponed.

"We firstly ensured all parties were safe and immediately worked with Steeton AFC officials, the police and the NWCFL.

"There is an investigation taking place.

"We are saddened over what has happened and have offered to cover the cost of Steeton's transport for the day and continue to work with all parties involved in the investigation.

"In the meantime a full review of dressing room security will be carried out."

Meanwhile, Steeton tweeted on Saturday: "Today's match has been postponed due to reasons beyond our control.

"We can confirm that all players, management, committee members, and supporters of both clubs are safe.

"Thank you for everyone's understanding and support."
