VISITORS to historic East Riddlesden Hall are being urged to give a helping hand to 'Percy the park keeper'.

A family trail is being launched, encouraging people to explore the grounds of the National Trust property and "get close to nature".

The initiative, being staged in association with author and illustrator Nick Butterworth, runs from this Saturday until December 19.

"Percy the Park Keeper’s Winter Wander starts with a letter from Percy asking for help with some of his winter jobs," said a spokesperson.

"Families are then encouraged to explore the gardens, looking for activities and games to join in with.

"Activities include helping rake-up leaves, collecting food for wildlife and building shelters for some of the animals that live in the gardens.

"There are also two self-led games for families to enjoy and a 'selfie station' to celebrate finishing the trail, where you can capture a photo with Percy and friends."

The cost is £2 per trail pack, including a letter from Percy and an activity bag. Normal admission charges to the hall apply.

Families are also encouraged to visit the tea room at the property, where festive treats are available.
