A KEIGHLEY mum-of-two has appeared on a new TV gameshow hosted by comedian Jimmy Carr.

And Kara Scott, who is paralysed from the waist down, said she wanted to use her experience to help show that disability needn't hold you back.

The 36-year-old was a contestant on the Channel 4 programme I Literally Just Told You, in which guests have to answer questions on things they've seen and heard during the show.

"I had a blast!" says Kara, who was born and brought-up in Keighley and lives in the Oakworth area.

"I was shocking, but so was everybody else – it was hilarious!

"My identical twin sister and carer, Ina, went with me.

"The filming in London was nine hours, so it was a super long day. And whilst I didn't win, I got to the final.

"Jimmy Carr said to me at the end of filming that he thought I was efflorescent. I had no idea what that meant, so thought I may have offended him!

"He said I could go to one of his shows and that he would get us a meal. I held him to it and even got my husband Jonathan, dad Carl and Ina in on it too! My mum Donna was going to come as well, but Winnie – my young daughter – was all on that night!

"All in all it was a great experience, with a very funny man."

Kara became paralysed in March, 2019, due to an autoimmune disease – around the same time that she discovered she was pregnant with Winnie.

She had Winnie the following January, just before coronavirus struck.

"I then fell out of my wheelchair and fractured my spinal cord!" said Kara.

"I had to have major surgery, with metal rods inserted in the hope that my lower back bones would fuse.

"As a result I spent three-and-a-half months away from my family, without visits due to Covid-19.

"A few months after I came home from hospital I got a message asking if I wanted to take part in a gameshow with Jimmy Carr – and I said yes, of course!

"I'm trying to raise awareness around disability and how it shouldn't define us.

"I aim to empower other disabled people through my experiences."
