A VILLAGE panto is back – oh yes it is!

After last year's show had to be cancelled amid pandemic restrictions, Oakworth Methodist Pantomime is making a comeback.

And organisers are promising "another action-packed extravaganza".

Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves is being performed at Oakworth Methodist Church from February 19-26.

The production features a 34-strong cast of youngsters.

"They can't wait to get on stage to entertain you once again," said a spokesperson.

"The storyline of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves has been adapted from one of the most exciting of the Arabian Nights stories – though the blood-thirstiness of the original has been toned down to a more acceptable level for a children’s pantomime!

"As always, the stunning scenery, special effects, costumes and routines bring out the best in our young people, to give a show of pure magic. And the popular UV scene really is out of this world this year!

"Ali Baba – a poor, righteous man – successfully overcomes evil Al Raschid and his forty thieves, helped by lovelorn dame Cascara, Tinbad – a tailor so clever he can sew together a body – and the beautiful slave girl, Marsaina.

"Ali’s miserly brother, Kassim, and sister-in-law Rhum try to get in on the action and suffer the consequences.

"Fate intervenes in the shape of Morgana and her adversary Avarice but, in the end, the villains really do get their comeuppance and the marriage of Marsaina to Ali’s son, Haroun, provides the perfect happy ending.

"Along the way the audience will be treated to some superb song and dance routines by Al Raschid and his thieves, the merchants, citizens and dancers, as well as the principals.

"You’ll be able to join in some marvellous comedy routines with Hanki, Panki, Jiggeri, Pokeri and the main characters; laugh until you cry at some of the antics they get up to and boo yourselves hoarse when Al Raschid is around – and you’ll all love Treacle, Tinbad’s teddy!

"Come along and witness for yourselves the suspense and excitement of another fun-packed, spectacular adventure."

There are 7pm performances on February 19, 21, 22, 23, 25 and 26, and 2pm matinees on both Saturdays – February 19 and 26.

Bookings can be made online at oakworthmethodists.org/Panto2022, or call Peter Howarth on 07968 618312.

If the show has to be cancelled due to the Covid situation, tickets will be fully refunded.
