COULD this be the future for takeaway meals in Keighley?

Sue Patchett – a volunteer with Keighley Big Local – collects her fish & chips, from Riddlesden Fisheries, in a container she provided herself.

She was taking part in a challenge organised by Plastic Free Keighley, to promote the idea of collecting takeaways in reusable containers.

Shaun O'Hare – of Keighley Big Local, which is backing the campaign organisation – said: "As consumers, we hold the ability to limit plastic waste and help change habits.

"One way to do this is to use our own reusable containers when ordering a takeaway.

"Big Local is supporting Plastic Free Keighley over the next few years.

"If you would like to get involved in the group and help support the message, keep an eye on its Facebook page for information on activities and events.

"We're hopeful that we can help create positive change in Keighley."

Plastic Free Keighley – which includes representation from groups in East Morton, Oakworth and Riddlesden – is striving to reduce usage of single-use plastics by consumers and businesses.

The organisation is signed-up to Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Communities.
