A GOVERNMENT planning inspector will rule on whether a proposed pizza takeaway restaurant should be given the go-ahead.
Bradford Council has twice rejected plans for the business to open in the former Co-op store at Cullingworth, saying the move would be contrary to its policy which prevents takeaway premises opening within 400 metres of a school, park or leisure facility.
The policy was introduced in an attempt to tackle childhood obesity levels.
But the applicant has lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate.
Referring to the premises' former use as a Co-Op, the appeal states: "Convenience stores typically sell sweets, biscuits, crisps and sugary drinks, which are often attractive to children – and may be cheaper and therefore more accessible than pizza from a takeaway."
