KEIGHLEY'S now-former town mayor took bald steps to further boost her charity appeal as her civic term neared its end.

Councillor Julie Adams had her head shaved, at Sainsbury's supermarket in the town.

She was supporting her chosen causes, Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands and Martin House Children's Hospice.

The shave was performed by Anees Yasin, a Level 2 student barber at Keighley College – after it had been started by the town's MP, Robbie Moore.

"I have so much admiration for Cllr Adams and all the work she did over her mayoral year for local charities – not least having her head shaved and even letting me take the first move!" said Mr Moore.

Cllr Adams said: "I am proud to have taken on the challenge of having my head shaved for the hospices.

"It was an honour to fundraise for the mayor’s charitable trust and I am delighted to have helped raise over £11,000 in total for Manorlands and Martin House."

Keighley College principal, Kevin O’Hare, said: "We were delighted to be asked to support this brave and selfless fundraiser.

"Cllr Adams has always shown tremendous support for the college, so it was great to give something back."
