YOUNG volunteers are being sought to help with this year's summer reading challenge in North Yorkshire libraries.
But prospective helpers have just until next Friday (July 1) to apply.
As part of the challenge, youngsters aged four to 11 are encouraged to read six library books over the summer holidays.
The theme this year is Gadgeteers.
Helpers – who should be aged 13-24 – will register children onto the challenge, help them choose books, talk to them about what they've read and assist with library activities.
Alliyah Ishaq, a regular volunteer with the scheme, says: "The challenge is a great opportunity for children to explore their love for reading, and taking part as a volunteer is always rewarding."
For more details, call at your local library.
Further information about the challenge – run by the Reading Agency, with libraries, and funded by Arts Council England – can be found at summerreadingchallenge.org.uk.
