A 21-year-old man who used to play rugby league for Keighley Cougars attempted to bite a man's ear during a disturbance.
Christopher Clough, of Western Street, Keighley, admitted at Bingley Court on Tuesday to being drunk and disorderly outside the Old White Horse pub, in Bingley, on February 2.
Magistrates were told when police officers arrived, Clough told them he had been assaulted.
He was shouting and swearing, was asked to move away and then seen to attempt to bite a man's ear.
Amjid Khan, for Clough, said his client now aimed to play for Huddersfield. Clough denied attempting to bite an ear. He said he was speaking to a friend. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £40 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
