MEMBERS of two locally-based riding for the disabled groups have returned from national championships with a clutch of accolades.
The riders – from the Haworth and Throstle Nest, Wilsden, groups – won rosettes in a range of disciplines at the Riding for the Disabled Association event, at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire.
Amongst those taking part was Annie Hornshaw, who received a Young Volunteer of the Year trophy – as well as securing first place in the countryside challenge junior section, third in a paintings and drawings class and fourth in 'best turned out'.
Annie, a member at Throstle Nest, said: "This was the first time anyone from our group had been to the national championships at Hartpury and it was great! I loved taking part in the countryside challenge on George. And being presented with the Young Volunteer of the Year Award made me feel very proud. I spend a lot of my spare time volunteering at Throstle Nest."
Travel to the national championships event was funded by the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Jackie Butterfield, founder of the Haworth group, said: "We were delighted to be able to take our fantastic riders to Hartpury thanks to the players of People’s Postcode Lottery."
