PUBLIC consultation is set to start over the relocation of Keighley post office.

The facility is currently based within the town's WH Smith store, but the stationery and books giant is shutting its branch on September 3.

Post Office Ltd reiterated this week that it was committed to maintaining a service in the town centre.

A spokesperson said: "There's an applicant who is in the latter stages of the process to become postmaster for Keighley.

"Subject to their appointment, we will soon be starting a local public consultation on our proposal to relocate Keighley post office.

"If the relocation goes ahead, the new branch will open very shortly after the closure of the current facility."

Unconfirmed reports indicate the post office is earmarked for Towngate.
