A LONG Lee girl has completed a sponsored walk in aid of charity.

Millie Rose Dixon, 14, covered a route from Shipley to Keighley.

The walk raised £55 for Keighley-based Action Point Community Support Services, and formed part of her work towards the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

And Millie said she had a special reason for organising the walk. "I wanted to raise awareness about hidden disabilities because I myself have learning difficulties, autism and dyslexia," she said. "This is why I wanted to create more awareness, understanding and support, to break down barriers towards hidden disabilities."

Diane Dale, Action Point chief officer, said: "We think it's fantastic Millie is raising awareness about such an important issue.

"People with hidden disabilities can face additional challenges because their disability is not obvious to others, and there is often a lack of support and social understanding.

"We’d like to thank Millie and everyone who sponsored her."

Action Point is staging a fun day at its Temple Row Centre base next Sunday (August 14), between 11am-3pm. Attractions will include a bouncy castle, singer, bake sale, tombola, jumble sale and children's games and activities.
