AN Oakworth woman is running the Yorkshire Marathon in support of Parkinson's UK.

Lynn Cutler is backing the charity after her mum was diagnosed with Parkinson's about two-and-a-half years ago.

Digital researcher Lynn, 49, takes on the event – at York – on October 16.

"Many people know very little about Parkinson's and to be honest I was the same until my mum’s diagnosis," she says.

"It’s a cruel and progressively debilitating condition which can affect people’s movements, cognitive abilities and everything in between.

"Parkinson’s UK is an amazing charity. It provides advice, support and resources for sufferers and their families – which is invaluable for an illness which is so unpredictable and where the range of symptoms and rate of progression vary enormously.

"I have always loved running and it’s one of my own coping mechanisms, so I thought why not combine it with helping Parkinson’s UK?"

Lynn has tackled distances up to a half marathon – she has completed the Great North Run eight times – but this is her first marathon.

She has set up an online fundraising page, at justgiving.com/fundraising/Lynn-Cutler1, and plans to have paper sponsor forms at the New Quarry House and Snooty Fox pubs.
