An accomplished magician is returning to the venue of his first performance after a 25-year wait.

Paul Sunderland, 39, from Ingrow, performed his first magic show at Wesley Place Methodist Church as a favour for a friend.

As a nervous 15-year-old, Mr Sunderland - who had previously only practised with a Paul Daniels' magic set - brought his friend along to help him cover up any mistakes.

But as the show got under way, Mr Sunderland soon realised his friend wasn't necessary, as the show went down a treat with the Ingrow church audience.

Now Mr Sunderland works as a part-time professional magician and is in demand for parties and functions around the district. He has also enjoyed more than a decade of membership with the Bradford Magic Circle, of which he is a former president.

To celebrate his big anniversary in the business, Mr Sunderland offered to perform a charity magic show at Wesley Place and all the proceeds will go towards the Methodist church funds.

Mr Sunderland, who also works as a train conductor for Northern Rail, said: "It is going to feel fantastic.

"I didn't even know if Wesley Place still existed but it is still here all these years later after I did my first show.

"It will be great performing there again and a great way to celebrate 25 years as a magician."

The event takes place on Saturday, May 17, at 7pm. Tickets cost £4 and include pie and peas.
