A GRATEFUL gran has paid tribute to her grandson after he went to her aid when she collapsed at home.
Vanessa Brown, 71, lost consciousness after suffering a medical episode at her Crossflatts house.
She had gone to the bathroom feeling unwell, whilst her grandson Lewis Parker – then aged 11 – watched a film on TV.
"Lewis stays over with me on a Friday night and we were watching a movie together," says Vanessa, a widow.
"I felt unwell and told Lewis I'd need to go to the bathroom.
"The next thing I knew I was coming round, lying on the floor.
"Lewis was asking 'are you alright gran?' and he'd had the presence of mind to bring me a pillow, a glass of water, a bowl in case I felt sick and a cold cloth to place on my head.
"Times are so troubled in many ways at the moment it's nice to show positive and good things that people are doing.
"Lews did such a fantastic job making sure I was OK. Myself and the whole family are so proud of him.
"It was his birthday shortly afterwards and I bought him an extra gift as a 'thank you'."
Lewis, now 12, lives at Long Lee and attends Bingley Grammar School.
Vanessa says the cause of her collapse is unclear.
"I've had blood tests etc but they haven't shown anything," she adds.
"Just in case it happens again, we've chatted to Lewis about how to dial 999 and get help should it be needed."
