A SOCIETY which runs popular miniature train rides in Keighley has received a funding boost.
Keighley and District Model Engineering Society has been awarded £4,900 for further improvements to its site at Marley Sports Stadium.
The grant – from the Keighley Big Local Partnership – will fund work including soil infill around part of the track, which will also create a grassed walkway, and the planting of shrubs and trees.
A society spokesperson said: "When the pandemic restricted our activities at Marley we started a programme of improvements. A lot of work has been done, but there is still much to do.
"We applied to the Keighley Big Local Partnership for funding and were delighted to be awarded a grant, for which we are extremely grateful."
Shaun O'Hare, of Keighley Big Local, says: "We know the funding will help sustain the miniature railway at Marley and create more opportunities for partnership projects with others. The railway is a great resource for Keighley."
The society has had to cancel its last two Sunday public-running events due to trespass issues at the site, but it will be operating steam and electric locos next Sunday afternoon (October 16). For more details, visit kdmes.org.uk/trains.
