A COMMUNITY orchard is planned for a town park.
Under the scheme, young people will plant the orchard in Foster Park, Denholme, this winter.
Fruit Works Co-operative, a Bradford Council tree-planting partner, has worked with members of Denholme Youth Cafe on a draft design.
Now residents are being asked for their views.
The orchard would include apples, pears, plums, cherries, hazel and medlar. The trees have been chosen by the cafe's Juniors section.
Funding for the project is being provided by the Community Led Gardening & Food Growing Fund, a council public health grant scheme designed to increase the number of such ventures across the district.
Grants of up to £2,000 are awarded for new or existing projects working with adults, children and young people.
Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's portfolio holder for healthy people and places, says: "A community orchard will be a wonderful asset for Denholme. It’s also great to give everyone in the town, young and old, a sense of ownership by getting them involved from the start to the finish of the project."
Residents can view the scheme and provide feedback at fruitworks.org.uk/denholme.
