THERMAL clothing giant Damart has seen sales surge as winter approaches – and people look to cut their heating costs.

The company, whose warehousing facility is at Steeton, says sales of its thermals are up by more than a third compared to this time last year. And it has doubled its stock levels in readiness for a further increase over the coming months.

Alyson Taggart, the firm's product and publications director, says: "It’s only the start of the season and already we’ve seen a significant uplift in thermal orders as people start to look at different ways to keep warm in the face of rising energy bills."

Damart is also working with charities to donate thermal base layers and clothing to those most in need.
