RUNNERS are being urged to pull on their trainers for a popular annual fundraiser in support of Manorlands.

Run Bolton Abbey is taking place for a fifth year, with all proceeds going to the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

Hundreds of people are expected to take part in the event, on Sunday, November 13.

There is a choice of multi-terrain routes, which incorporate parts of the Bolton Abbey estate that are not normally accessible to the public.

Distances include a half-marathon, 10k and ten miles, and there is a 2.4-mile family fun run.

All participants will benefit from chip timing. And instead of medals being awarded this year, a tree will be planted for each entrant.

Amongst those taking part in the event – which is sponsored by Midgely Motors – is primary school teacher Amy Fox, from Crossflatts.

"Both my mum and mother-in-law passed away from breast cancer and received care at the end of their lives at Manorlands hospice," says Amy, 34. "Therefore I will always do what I can to support the charity, as they’ve helped me and my family in the past.

"I've been a member of Oakworth Road Runners for years and have taken part in a number of running events to raise money for Manorlands – including the Keighley 10k, Solstice Saunter and Run Bolton Abbey, as well as virtual events held during the pandemic. I'm also looking forward to running the new Leeds Marathon in May next year for Sue Ryder."

Adam Brunskill, community fundraiser at Manorlands, encourages others to sign up for the event.

He says: "The Bolton Abbey estate looks stunning at this time of year and this event provides a unique opportunity to enjoy the dazzling autumn colours as you run on parts of the estate not usually open to the public.

"We’ve listened to participant feedback and we’re pleased to say that the 10k route is flatter and a bit kinder than in previous years, so please come and join in the fun! You’ll be raising vital funds to ensure that Manorlands hospice can continue to provide specialist care and bereavement support for people in our community going through the most difficult times of their lives."

The runs will start in waves just after 9am, and with the event falling on Remembrance Sunday a two-minute silence will be observed at 11am.
