A FORMER motorsport world champion was among a hardy group who braved difficult conditions for Bradford & District Motor Club’s latest race day.

Dougie Lampkin was among the field for the club's trials event held in harsh unforgiving weather for Sunday’s annual Eric S Myers Trophy Trial.

Heavy rain and a cold wind swept over the moorland high above Gargrave.

A total of 14 sections and three laps on Sunday was the format and at least the rained eased by mid-day on the day of action.

The weather did not deter a hardy bunch of 60 competitors from braving the weather forecast.

The hot teams were out. Team Lampkin and cousins Team Hemingway were out in force and also Richard Sadler travelled down from Richmond to take on Dougie Lampkin.

Sadler, Lampkin and his nephew George Hemingway rode the three-lap 16-section moorland course without penalty.

The rain blanketed the region until the afternoon at the event.

John Bannister headed the Clubman A class from West Leeds club member Nigel Crowther and Yeadon-Guiseley club member Paul Jackson.

Harrogate Sawmill owner Robert Hardisty also excelled by winning the Clubman category from chimney sweep Phillip Hammond and Tom Green.

A total of 62 competitors braved the very adverse weather which was also testing the sixteen hardy observers.
