A DISTRICT MP has issued a plea for funding to support communities which frequently flood.

Philip Davies is pressing for his Shipley constituency, which includes Cullingworth and Denholme, to receive help through the Government's Frequently Flooded Allowance.

Last year it was announced that £100 million would be given to communities where properties are hit by repeated flooding, to help implement defence measures.

Mr Davies says: "No one should be in fear when it rains, and the psychological impact of flooding cannot be underestimated.

"We need to do everything we can to put an end to communities being repeatedly flooded.

"I have been clear that I want to see communities with a history of flooding prioritised for schemes, meaning my constituents would be at the top of the list.

"I've had many meetings about this with ministers and I hope they have listened to the concerns. I will keep making this point to them, as my constituents need action on this."

Environment minister Rebecca Pow said funding applications had been received and a decision would be announced at the end of the month. She added: "Flooding can be devastating for those people who have to experience it time and time again."
