SUE Ryder – the charity which runs Manorlands hospice at Oxenhope – is seeking adventurous supporters to take part in a fundraising trek across the Sahara desert.

The expedition, in October, will begin with a flight to Ouarzazate in Morocco.

Participants will then follow a route through palm trees, sand dunes and desert mountains, and camp under the stars.

Hayley Ibbotson, a senior community fundraiser at Manorlands, recently tackled a charity trek through the Avenue of Volcanoes in Ecuador to raise funds in memory of her grandmother.

She said: "I've supported Manorlands for as long as I can remember, but since it cared for my grandma in 2016 it's really changed my perspective and made me think about personal goals. Trekking for the hospice allowed me to combine challenging myself with supporting a cause that's important to me.

"To anyone thinking about doing a trek, I'd say go for it! You'll have something rewarding to look forward to and have the most amazing experience."

Registration for the Sahara expedition costs £199, and participants will be supported by Sue Ryder to meet a fundraising target.
