IT was not exactly deckchair on Sunday on the exposed moors a mile east of Greenhow village.

The rain held off but the breeze was definitely of an Arctic nature as the ten observer took up their stations. Leeds lady Wendy Sherwin and ace photographer Brian Ayrton drew the short straw and plodded to sections six and seven where easterly breeze chilled observers and competitors.

At least the rain held off. In some ways the forty two strong entry at least cut down the chances of hyperthermia –just. Silsden youngster Josh McParland won the hard route from Harrison Skelton

Heading a trial of Youth Class A trio. Anthony Ayrton won Clubman A category from Dan Lambert and Errol Brown and Anthony’s daughter Lucy took sixth place in class. Robin Luscombe, Suzuki main dealer and also landowner, won Clubman B riding his half century old BSA Bantam. Interesting names in the Youth classes. Teenager MatIlda Arbon travelled from Marske to compete. Matilda is hot in national championships. Dacre boys Jimmy and Bobby Crabtree are on a mission – to beat their father Richard – it will happen! Despite the cold day Alfie Drachenberg and Sophie Sellers completed the Club course and they were the youngest competitors.
