A BOOK documenting the stories of Oxenhope’s wartime evacuees has raised £2,389 for the village-based hospice Manorlands.
The book was inspired by sisters Edna and Audrey Mackay, who were evacuated from Bradford to Oxenhope in 1939.
Their memories are featured, together with photos and school records, plus the stories of other evacuees and accounts from schoolchildren.
All proceeds from sales of The Story of Oxenhope’s Evacuees, which was collated by Mike Hopkinson and Norma Mackrell, go to Manorlands.
Hayley Ibbotson, senior community fundraiser at the hospice, says: "This book provides a fascinating insight into the experiences of evacuees. We’d like to thank Mike and Norma. It's thanks to the generosity of our community that we can continue to be there when it matters for people.”
The book is currently out of print, but will be available as an ‘e-flip book’ and on sale at the Manorlands garden party in July.
