KEIGHLEY'S Scout movement turned out in force today (April 23) for its annual St George's Day parade and service.

Young members and leaders made their way through the town, led by a piper, for an open-air service held at Church Green.

Hundreds of people, from across the organisation's various sections, took part in the event.

Special guests at the service included deputy lieutenant of West Yorkshire David Pearson, Keighley MP Robbie Moore, town mayor Councillor Luke Maunsell, Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Martin Love and Guiding representatives.

A welcome was given by Scouting district chair Joe Gallucci, and the national anthem was sung.

There was a silent tribute for those from the movement locally who had died, referred to in Scouting as 'gone home', during the past year.

District commissioner Jeanette Young led members in the renewal of their promises.

A number of different accolades were given out, including Ron Powell Awards and Chief Scout's Awards.

And three merit awards were presented to leaders, for outstanding service.

Mrs Young said: "Every single leader does fantastic work in this town, and sometimes we look to recognise those people who go that little bit further."

The event closed with a sing-song.
