NEW equipment is in use across Keighley to crack down on speeding motorists.

A hand-held detection device known as a Pro Laser is being deployed to detect offenders.

Bradford Council funded the kit, as part of a partnership with West Yorkshire Police.

Since its introduction, several motorists have already been prosecuted.

Sergeant Mark Chapman, of Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team, says: "Road safety remains a top priority across our area and we will continue to tackle those who choose to put themselves and other road users at risk.

"We welcome this investment in the speed detection device.

"Speeding is a concern for communities and we'll maintain our work to raise awareness of the dangers and the devastating consequences that driving at speed can have on our roads."

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, the council’s executive member for regeneration, planning and transport, says: "We know that speeding is a big concern for our communities and by investing in this latest speed detector we are continuing our commitment to tackle this problem with our partner agencies."
