A COMMUNITY gardening weekend is being staged in Silsden.

Climate Action Silsden is organising the event, on Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25.

A wide range of activities is planned, including a chance to look at newly-created community allotments, longer-established plots in Bolton Road and the gardens at the Ecology Building Society.

Local professional gardener Pippa Chapman will be giving a talk, encouraging people to create more space for wildlife in their own gardens, there will be a guided wildflower walk and an opportunity to learn more about plans to provide nature areas in the grounds of Silsden Primary School.

Alison Tribe, chair of Climate Action Silsden, says: "Silsden has a number of volunteer-run gardening groups which between them create and care for many green spaces in the town. The weekend hopes to promote the work of the groups and encourage more people to get involved in gardening, whether in community spaces or in their own gardens or back yards, by offering some practical ideas and advice."

There will also be a display in the memorial gardens highlighting the work of other ‘green’ groups in Silsden.

The full programme of events can be found on the Climate Action Silsden Facebook page.
