FASHION retailer Damart is to continue its sponsorship of a crown green bowling contest.

The company, whose warehousing facility is at Steeton, has backed the Jim Mellor Handicap for several years.

And the firm confirms it will be supporting the 2023 competition, on September 30.

More than 60 bowlers from across the district are expected to take part in the event, organised by Bradford Crown Green Bowls Association.

Its chair, Tony Riley, says: "We are extremely grateful to Damart for its continued support.

"The popular event is held annually in memory of Jim Mellor, who worked tirelessly for over 50 years for the association as secretary, treasurer and chairman.

"We look forward to welcoming bowlers from across the district again this summer to see who will take home this year’s cup."

Claire Allcock, people director with Damart, says: "We’re always really pleased to support local clubs like the Bradford Crown Green Bowls Association which are making a difference in our community. We wish them every success with this year’s competition."
