PEOPLE had a lucky escape when a tree crashed down across a busy road.

The tree fell, blocking Chapel Lane in Oakworth, yesterday evening.

There were reports of damage to a vehicle, but no injuries.

Councillor Luke Maunsell, who represents Oakworth on Keighley Town Council, says: "I'm grateful for Bradford Council's quick response to the fallen tree and to Openreach which arrived to investigate the impact on overhead wires.

"However, it's concerning that such an incident happened in the first place.

"I hope a full investigation into the nearby treeline is made to prevent any further trees or branches falling. As a key road through the village, all efforts must be made to safeguard locals."

Bradford Council says an investigation by its officers found the tree had fallen from private land.

A spokesperson added: "Keighley Tree Services, which acts as an on-call contractor to the council, was called out to reopen the road.

"People have a responsibility to regularly check trees growing on their land to identify any that may pose a risk, and to take timely action to remove any hazardous trees.

"Trees on council land and within the adopted highway are regularly inspected to assess their condition."
