A HORTICULTURAL society has staged its 60th annual show – and declared the event one of its best attended ever.

Crowds flocked to the Harden Beck Horticultural Society showground, behind the village's Golden Fleece pub.

Andy Macdonald, for the society, says: "Visitors were treated to brilliant exhibits, delicious local butcher's pies and championship-quality music from band BD1 Brass. There was something for everyone.

"Even a torrential downpour in no way dampened the spirits of those who stayed for the traditional end-of-show auction."

He thanked businesses and individuals that had supported the event financially, and volunteers who helped with the preparations.

"Without doubt this was one of the best ever attended shows," Mr Macdonald added. "A successful day all round."

The society is looking to organise a spring show next year, and is considering a trip to Burton Agnes Hall Garden Festival.

Updates will be given at hardenbeckhorticulturalsociety.co.uk and on Facebook.
