SINGER and actor Gareth Gates will switch on Keighley's Christmas lights next month.

He will perform on stage before heading-up the ceremony to illuminate the town's festive displays, on Sunday, November 26.

Bradford-born Gareth shot to stardom after finishing runner up in the first series of TV talent show Pop Idol.

He has gone on to sell millions of records and enjoy an acting career.

The switch-on – at the Church Green car park – and an accompanying fireworks display will be the culmination of a day of festivities, which will run from 11.30am to 4.45pm.

There will be children's fairground rides, and a Christmas market in Low Street.

Santa will make appearances throughout the day, and crowds can enjoy stalls and other activities in the car park area.

Marigold Addams will perform a medley of festive tunes in the run up to the switch-on, and there will be entertainment from BOLT Academy choir and Magic Matt.

"The event promises a plethora of activities to immerse everyone in the spirit of Christmas," said a spokesperson.

"We are delighted and excited that Gareth is joining us to sing and officially illuminate the lights!"

There is also a chance for members of the public to showcase their talents, such as singing or dancing, on stage and win a £100 voucher. Email an audition tape to Elisabeth.king@keighley.gov.uk.
