A LONG wait for a bus shelter at an exposed spot above Silsden will soon be over.

Residents at Cringles Park Home Estate have been calling for years for a shelter to be provided at the stop, opposite the site in Bolton Road.

Now West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which is responsible for installing shelters, has agreed to the request.

Campaigners were backed by MP Robbie Moore.

He said: "At long last, West Yorkshire Combined Authority has listened to calls to build a shelter for residents of Cringles heading by bus to Ilkley and Addingham.

"You wouldn’t think something so simple would take so long. Residents have been calling for a shelter for years, but unfortunately have always been given excuses by the combined authority.

"After eventually receiving written confirmation that a shelter will be built, I'll be working to ensure the combined authority delivers on its promise and installs this shelter as quickly as possible."

A West Yorkshire Combined Authority spokesperson told the Keighley News: "We work hard to ensure the fair provision of bus shelters across the region.

"Locations are decided based on a number of factors, including usage of individual stops and the needs of the local community."
