MALE carers across the district are being invited to take part in a series of activities.

Carers’ Resource is staging several initiatives over the next few months as part of its Men Care Too project.

Any male registered with the charity – which covers Bradford and Craven district, as well as Harrogate and Selby – can participate for free.

A meet-up is being held at Mumtaz Restaurant, Bradford, on January 15, from 6pm.

Next up is a campfire event – with free fish and chips – at Hunters Greave Scout Activity Campsite, Bramley, on Saturday, January 27, from 1pm to 5pm.

And a bushcraft weekend is planned at the same venue on Saturday and Sunday, February 24/25.

The event, a follow up to a hugely successful bushcraft day on Baildon Moor in the autumn, will include archery and campfire cooking.

Woodworking workshops are also planned early next year.

Plus the charity is now offering regular, informal music, jamming and games evenings.

They take place at St Peter’s Church, Shipley.

Goran Selby, Men Care Too project officer, says: "These sessions give you the chance to chat to other male carers while you listen to music, with the opportunity to play snooker, darts and table tennis too. Perhaps try your hand at guitar or piano with a chance to pick up tips and techniques from expert musicians? There are free refreshments, including pizza and a cuppa.

"For those wanting to improve their music skills further, we are holding regular jazz band workshops for male carer instrumentalists and singers. You don’t need to be able to read music. This group would suit male carers who can play an instrument but want to build confidence to tackle complicated styles. And musicians will get the chance to join the Men Care Too band!

"Male carers can also join regular 'coffee and strolls', and we are setting up some hill and moorland walks for those seeking a bit more of a challenge.

"Some activities such as the coffee and strolls allow carers to dip in for an hour or so if they like just for coffee, whilst others may stay for longer and do the walk. So people can come for as long, or as little time, as they wish depending on their commitments."
