AN annual Beef & Beer Dinner has served up more than £58,000 for Manorlands.

Since it was first held 18 years ago, the black-tie event has coined in over £1.6 million for the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

The dinner, at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley, is organised by the Manorlands Challenge Committee.

Sponsored by Timothy Taylor's brewery in Keighley and Pontefract-based Dovecote Park, the event sees businesses rally round.

This year, 24 companies were represented – including new guests King Cole, Bulloughs Cleaning Services, Crag & Co Accountants and Clarion Solicitors.

A pop-up bar was provided by Taylor's, which offered free pints of its award-winning beers.

And centre stage on the dinner table was a loin of premium beef provided by Dovecote Park.

Guest speaker was former Yorkshire and England cricket captain, Dr Jane Powell.

The event culminated with an auction. Lots that went under the hammer included a Timothy Taylor’s brewery tour, exclusive use of an award-winning spa at The Coniston Hotel, and a corporate hospitality package to see Manchester City play Crystal Place at the Etihad football stadium.

Tim Dewey, chief executive of Taylor's, said the firm was delighted to once again give its support.

He added: "We were proud to donate our award-winning beers for the dinner to raise much-needed funds for the fantastic work of Manorlands."

Senior hospice fundraiser, Harriet Bevan, says: "We are so fortunate to be able to work with Timothy Taylor’s and Dovecote Park on this absolutely fantastic event – their support is invaluable and greatly appreciated.

"The funds we have managed to raise will make a huge difference to the lives of the patients and families we are able to support when it matters most.

"In addition, we would like to thank the members of the challenge committee who play a crucial role in helping to organise both the Beef & Beer and Coniston Challenge Day events, which this year have raised a combined total of £113,000 to support the work of Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice."

The Coniston Challenge Day – held at the Coniston Hotel Country Estate & Spa, Coniston Cold – sees business teams take part in a variety of activities on the 1,400-acre estate, including clay pigeon shooting, a Land Rover driving experience and archery.

All Manorlands services are free to patients and their loved ones, but it costs over £10,000 a day to keep the hospice doors open.
