MORRISONS is supporting an award-winning affordable food charity.

The supermarket giant – whose stores include the outlet at Worth Way, Keighley – has helped distribute over 7.8 million meals to low-income families in the past year.

Food was provided to charity The Bread and Butter Thing through Morrisons' manufacturing and logistic sites.

More than 2,600 tonnes of stock, surplus due to factors such as imperfections or mislabelling, were provided.

Sophie Throup, for Morrisons, says: "Our sites work really hard to ensure that we have little or no waste in our supply chains, however where we do have surplus stock or when food isn’t quite up to standard for sale in stores but is perfectly edible, we get these items to those who need them the most."

Mark Game, chief executive officer of The Bread and Butter Thing, says: "Our food clubs provide access to affordable, nutritious foodstuffs for low-income households in some of the most deprived areas of the UK, helping families eat better and stretch their household budgets.

"Morrisons has been one of our staunchest supporters since the charity's inception. We are delighted – and grateful – that its teams are doing everything they can to support our members."
