A DISPERSAL order has been put in place in Keighley town centre after reports of anti-social behaviour and violent incidents.

There have been several reports received of incidents over recent days in and around the bus station.

The dispersal order was imposed from 7pm yesterday (February 28), covering the bus station area, and will initially remain in place for 48 hours.

The area covered is bordered by Hanover Street, Cavendish Street, North Street and the Airedale Shopping Centre.

As part of the order, which falls under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act, officers can "disperse and remove any person suspected of contributing or likely to contribute to anti-social behaviour and instruct the surrender of any relevant property. Anyone under 16 can be removed to their place of residence or place of safety".

Inspector John Barker, of Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team, says: "Youths continue to cause a nuisance in and around the bus station, and this behaviour will not be tolerated.

"The dispersal order is constantly reviewed. We hope using this power will reduce the likelihood of the public in the locality being harassed, alarmed or distressed, and prevent further crime and disorder."

Anyone with information about those involved in incidents is asked to contact the Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101 or go to westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat
