SURFACE dressing is to be carried out on roads in Cowling and Cross Hills.

North Yorkshire Council says it will be heading to the villages, plus West Marton near Skipton, towards the end of next month as part of its annual road surface dressing programme.

Residents are being advised to check the council's roadworks map, at northyorks.gov.uk/roadworks-map, for when exactly work will take place.

The highways capital programme totals £53 million for this financial year, of which £25.3 million has been allocated to road schemes. This includes £5 million for the surface dressing programme, covering 142 miles of roads.

Karl Battersby, North Yorkshire Council's corporate director of environment, says: "Keeping our roads in the best condition with the money we have available is one of our key priorities.

"The annual surface dressing programme is a proactive measure that is vital to maintaining a safe network and preventing potholes arising.

"We carefully choose the routes and work closely with our contractors to ensure we deliver a cost-effective scheme despite ongoing inflationary pressures. The schedule will benefit residents in all areas of the county."
